Collaboration with KIMSSA
Kidane Meheret Self-Help Association
The Redefine Life Foundation is currently under discussion about RDL providing
assistant to Kidane Mehret Students' Self-Help Association (KIMSSA) with their need for sewing equipment
and musical equipment.
KIMSSA currently has 185 students attending 11 elementary and high schools in the neighborhood of the Association and receiving tutorial and library services under the guidance of qualified instructors on daily basis. Of these, 65 have got sponsors. The Association gives monthly 50 birr each mainly for purchasing food. The remaining 120 kids are still looking for sponsors.
In addition, KIMSSA is providing skills training in Ethiopian National Dancing to high school dropouts (recruited from outside members.) The training lasts for 6 months. The current and fourth batch consisting of 35 trainees will graduate after two months when they will stage a fund raising performance at the National Theatre. The encouraging aspect of this type of training, rarely available in the City, is that the majority of the graduates readily find employment in and out of the country.
KIMSSA has requested that RDL assist with:
1. Purchase sewing machines and other equipment to strengthen their tailoring/embroidery making unit;
2. Purchase musical equipment to revamp their theatrical and musical unit that generates income by staging theatrical and musical performances at weddings and various festivities. The Self-Help Band, as it is called, has grown into an accomplished band. If any one plans to have their wedding in Ethiopia, We encourage you to use the KIMSSA's Band as it would mean more to them than any other band in Ethiopia.
RDL hopes as we enter 2010, we can accomplish the aforementioned projects and add more projects as we grow our membership and volunteer base.
